Know Your Customer

The know-your-customer principle is a basic requirement in banking services and is also known as Know Your Customer (KYC) or Customer Due Diligence (CDD). We are committed to being a reliable partner for a more sustainable future, and a reliable and secure financial system. We strive to build sustainable and ethical relationships by getting to know our customers well: who are they and what do their business activities entail? This helps us contribute to the realisation of their ambitions and prevent abuse.

Security and integrity

Banking services entail integrity risks. As gatekeepers of the financial system, we protect our system against financial crime. We do this through customer due diligence and transaction monitoring. This enables us to detect, prevent and tackle money laundering, terrorist financing, corruption and fraud.

Legal obligations

In addition to our role as a social gatekeeper, we also have a legal obligation to carefully investigate who our customers, their representatives and ultimately their beneficial owners (UBOs) are. In the Netherlands, these rules are laid down in, amongst other things, the Financial Supervision Act (Wft), the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Prevention) Act (Wwft) and the Sanctions Act 1977 (SW). In addition, US and UK sanctions legislation also applies to BNG.

Client screening and identification

Both new and existing clients are subject to (periodic) client screening. This is done carefully and transparently, with privacy guaranteed. During the screening, we may ask questions about the following topics:

  • The nature of the business activities, and in which countries
  • The organisational structure, the ultimate beneficial owner(s) and the purpose behind the structure
  • Current and expected cash flows
  • The origin of the (business) assets

In addition, we identify and verify the legal representatives of our customers. Personal identification contributes to secure and ethical financial services. It is therefore in both your and our interest that we always have the correct customer details. We do this in collaboration with AMP.

Partner AMP

AMP is a partner of BNG and carries out identification and verification for us. They specialise in personal identification online or on location. This allows you to decide whether you want to identify yourself online or at a location of your choice. This could be at your home, your work or another location in the Netherlands. This means you do not need to visit the BNG office. To ensure that you identify yourself to the right person, AMP Group will send you an email in advance with a unique identification code and a photo of the employee who will be visiting you. This allows us to ensure that the process is conducted properly and securely for you.

Frequently asked questions Identification

AMP Group specialises in personal identification, both online and on location. This makes it easy for you to identify yourself, whether at work, at home or at another location in the Netherlands. This means you do not need to visit the BNG office.

The data you share with AMP Group is securely transmitted digitally to BNG and then immediately deleted by AMP Group. Identification via AMP Group is therefore completely secure.

More information about AMP Group can be found at ampgroep.nl.

Your BSN will only be used if you are an independently or jointly authorised director and your organisation has a term deposit or current account with BNG. This is done in the context of the Dutch deposit guarantee scheme.

You can identify yourself with a valid:

  • Passport
  • Dutch identity card

Other forms of identification are not permitted for this process.

It is important that you identify yourself in person before the date stated in your bank mail.

We kindly request that you respond in good time so that you can continue to use our services. If we do not receive a response from your organisation, we will unfortunately be forced to terminate the identification process and you will no longer be authorised to represent the organisation.

Transaction monitoring

To ensure a secure transaction environment, we monitor all cash flows daily for unusual or irregular transactions. This enables us to help protect the financial system against crime. In this context, we may request additional information or documentation.
