BNG Theatre Award

With the BNG Theatre Award, BNG Culture Fund encourages emerging theatre talent. The cash prize of €45,000 allows the winner to tour Dutch theatres with the winning production or to invest in a new show. All new theatre makers who are touring with a production in the Netherlands can be nominated for the award as a surprise.

Winner of the BNG Theatre Award 2025

Theatre maker Hanneke van der Paardt has won the BNG Theatre Award 2025 with her impressive performance BANG. She received the award on 5 September during the Dutch Theatre Festival at Theater Bellevue.

Nominees 2025

On Thursday 26 June, the BNG Theatre Jury announced the nominations. The nominees are:

  • Person Longing for Human - Charles Pas / Stichting A Fully Coherent Plan, Feikes Huis  
  • Dear Frail Male - Just van Bommel / Frascati Productions
  • Liberty Bell - Jorg van den Kieboom & Hidde Brouwers / het zuid land
  • BANG - Hanneke van der Paardt
  • Göbek Aşkı - Çiğdem Polat

Jury

The jury consists of:

  • Leonie Clement (jury chair and artistic director Festival Cement)

Partnership with the Netherlands Theatre Festival

Each year, the BNG Culture Fund presents the BNG Theatre Award in partnership with the Netherlands Theatre Festival during the opening days of the festival. This award encourages emerging theatre talent and increases their visibility within the theatre world.

The Netherlands Theatre Festival showcases the best theatre from the Netherlands and Flanders every year. For eleven days, audiences experience leading performances in Amsterdam. The festival brings audiences and creators together and encourages dialogue. In this way, theatre grows as a mirror of society and a driver of change.

Today, during the Dutch Theatre Festival at Theater Bellevue, the BNG Theatre Prize 2024 was awarded to theatre makers Sue-Ann Bel and Hali Neto. They received this prize, worth 45,000 euros, for the performance Let's Go Barbie by Maas theatre and dance.
