BNG Theatre Award

The BNG Theatre Award is a leading encouragement prize for promising theatre makers in the Netherlands, offering them not only visibility but also the opportunity to further develop their work.

The prize

The award is a collaboration between the BNG Cultuurfonds and the Nederlands Theater Festival (NTF).

Each year, the independent BNG Theatre Jury selects a shortlist of nominations: performances by emerging makers who are (or have been) on tour in the Netherlands and who distinguish themselves through artistic quality, urgency, and a distinctive creative signature. The winner receives a glass sculpture by Emmy van de Grift and €45,000 to restage the winning production and/or invest in a new one. Where possible, (part of) the nominated performances are presented during the festival in Amsterdam.

The award ceremony takes place during the Nederlands Theater Festival: the annual moment when the very best of Dutch theatre comes together and emerging makers are given extra visibility. You can find more information about the award, the nominations, and the jury via the Nederlands Theater Festival.
