Since 2008, the National Youth Orchestra has selected a young artist in residence (yair) each year. This is an exceptionally talented young Dutch musician who is given a prominent place at the National Youth Orchestra (NJO) Muziekzomer Festival.
Since 2018, the young artist in residence is also the winner of the BNG Music Award. The yair is invited to organise the programme for the Muziekzomer Gelderland Festival, a 16-day festival with performances, concerts, and events at the most beautiful locations in Gelderland province. With an amount of €20.000, the yair can realise all projects developed together with the NJO. The position of young artist in residence can give a major boost to the musician’s career.
The BNG Culture Fund presents the BNG Music Award each year together with the National Youth Orchestras of the Netherlands (NJON). NJON supports young musical talents aged 14 to 26 in their growth as professionals. They organise programmes with classical music, jazz, and improvisation for a wide audience. With a dedicated team and many volunteers, NJON brings music and talent together at the highest level.
