Distribution network operators and utility companies

BNG is ready to assist distribution network operators (DNO) and utility companies. We facilitate and finance organisations in which the government has a minimum 50 per cent stake. These include companies involved in energy, drinking water, fibre optics and heating.

Developments in the sector

DNO and utility companies will face major challenges in the coming years. Our national goals for environmental and energy transition require a strengthened energy network and the construction of heat networks. Together, we must reduce emissions.

Stronger energy network

Pressure on the electricity grid is increasing. This is due to the rise of heat pumps and electrification of businesses. Wind turbines and solar panels also feed energy back into the grid, which requires smart adjustments.

Installing district heating networks

The Netherlands must gradually phase out gas. District heating networks offer efficient heating, but are complex and require a careful approach for each neighbourhood. Read more about district heating networks.

Challenges in water supply

The growing population and changing climate are putting pressure on our water supply. Smart investments are needed to secure our water supply, both now and in the future.

What we offer

We offer specialist financing for network and utility companies. From balance sheet to project financing. Thanks to our cost+ regulation and government support, we offer competitive interest rates. We actively contribute ideas to the market on:

  • Financing for energy networks in the Netherlands
  • Support for drinking water companies
  • Partnerships in heating initiatives, mainly under government guarantee
  • Fibre optic projects with project financing and government guarantees
