BNG and Altrecht sign financing agreement for making healthcare real estate more sustainable

Altrecht and BNG are collaborating to renovate and improve the sustainability of the Den Eik and De Brink buildings on the Sanatorium grounds in Zeist. Both buildings are outdated. The financing agreement for the renovation was signed today. The aim of this renovation is to provide a contemporary and sustainable working and treatment environment for clients, family, staff and visitors.

Well-being and sustainability

‘Altrecht offers appropriate (highly) specialised treatment for people with serious, complex psychiatric disorders. Young and old, in all stages of life,’ says Stefan de Kort, director at Altrecht. ‘In order to keep care for these people accessible in the future, we are committed to working differently, smarter, more sustainably, more digitally and in networks. As an organisation, we also feel truly responsible for making our care in society more sustainable. The objectives of Green Deal 3.0 are leading in this regard. I think the renovation of our Den Eik and De Brink buildings is a good example of how we are continuing to develop in the areas of well-being and sustainability and connecting the green environment of the site with these buildings."

Healing environment

The buildings will be given a different look, with a focus on nature. 'This will enable us to create a ‘healing environment’: an environment that promotes the well-being of clients, loved ones and colleagues and reduces their stress. Think of more daylight, fresh air, views of the beautiful forest and the use of natural colours and materials.' The buildings will also be partially disconnected from the gas supply, the facades and roof will be insulated, and a new air treatment system will be installed. De Kort: 'This will improve the indoor climate in both winter and summer.'

Flexible modern buildings

Den Eik and De Brink – where short-term specialist care will soon be provided – are not just buildings that are pleasant to work or stay in. The designs also take into account that both buildings can be used flexibly for different target groups and (care) functions. ‘If healthcare needs change in the future, we will be able to use both buildings for other functions without the need for major renovations. This means that these buildings are and will remain sustainable and future-proof.’

Results through trust

Since 2010, BNG has been the proud principal bank of Altrecht, providing long-term financing. This new agreement confirms the mutual trust between both parties. Okko Dijkstra, sector lead for Healthcare at BNG and involved with Altrecht from the outset: ‘We have confidence in Altrecht's vision. We are pleased to be able to support an environment that contributes to the quality of care'.

The renovation of the Den Eik building will start in September and take one year, followed by the renovation of the De Brink building, which will take a year and a half.
