The municipality of Doetinchem and Sité Woondiensten will start construction of 91 climate-proof homes in the De Kwekerij area in early 2025. Of these, 32 homes are intended for social housing. BNG has provided financing for this project, guaranteed by the Social Housing Guarantee Fund (WSW).

The homes in De Kwekerij are being built by BAM Wonen and can be rented by first-time buyers, families and senior citizens. What makes this project special is that it is being built in a circular, biobased and nature-inclusive manner. Consideration has been given to minimising construction waste, reusing water and creating a healthy indoor living environment. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2025.

‘Ook buiten de randstad liggen er enorme opgaves voor corporaties. Mooi om te zien dat dit bijzondere project wordt gebouwd. Sité Woondiensten heeft in haar regio enorme ambities zowel op gebied van verduurzaming als met het bouwen van nieuwe woningen. In de gesprekken met de klant is dit ook uitgebreid besproken. BNG probeert hierbij ook echt een meerwaarde te zijn.’

Investing in the Netherlands

Providing this loan is in line with BNG's ambition. We want our financing to contribute to a green and social living environment in the Netherlands. The construction and realisation of sustainable and climate-proof homes in the municipality of Doetinchem fits well. We are investing in a unique and progressive project that can serve as an example for other housing associations. Relationship Manager Housing Frans Brochard: ‘There are also enormous challenges for housing associations outside the Randstad conurbation. It is great to see this special project being built.  Sité Woondiensten has enormous ambitions in its region, both in terms of sustainability and the construction of new homes. This was also discussed at length in our discussions with the client. BNG is striving to provide real added value in this regard.’

Barneveld housing association has made 79 houses in the Oude Bloemenbuurt more sustainable. It worked with building contractor Van Wijnen and obtained funding from BNG to implement various energy-saving measures, including the insulation of the buildings’ outer shell and the installation of solar panels. The measures have reduced carbon emissions and energy costs, and provide greater comfort for residents. This project is a perfect illustration of how housing associations can accelerate sustainability through smart partnerships.

Wocozon: making social rental housing more sustainable
1 December 2022
Every year, the Wocozon Foundation provides several thousand social rental homes throughout the Netherlands with solar panel installations. So far, it has provided 35,000 installations and counting. As a result, it is greatly contributing to making the social real estate of housing corporations more sustainable and to keeping the energy costs of tenants in the social sector affordable. BNG Bank has been supporting Wocozon with suitable financing since 2015, enabling the foundation to grow from a start-up into a company with more than 175 employees. Roland van der Klauw, founder and director of Wocozon: ‘BNG Bank is truly a partner in sustainability.’
