BNG appoints Norbert Siegers as its new Chief Operating Officer

The Hague, 5 January 2025 – BNG has appointed Norbert Siegers as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). In line with the ongoing organisational restructuring, he will begin on 5 January 2026 as COO designate, preparing the transition to the newly defined COO domain. He will formally assume the COO role on 7 May 2026, following approval of the appointment by the supervisory authority.

Siegers brings extensive experience in banking, operations, payments, data and digitalisation. He previously served as CEO of Transactie Monitoring Nederland and held several leadership roles at ABN AMRO. His broad background aligns with BNG’s ambition to further strengthen its digital capabilities and operational excellence.

Entering a new phase

BNG is entering a new phase in which reliability, cost-efficiency and accessibility will remain essential, while data quality, digitalisation and future‑proof processes will play an increasingly important role. As part of this transition, the current COO domain will be divided into two dedicated areas:

  • a COO domain focused on operations, data quality and process optimisation
  • a CIO domain, fully dedicated to IT foundations, modernisation and professionalisation.

This new structure will enable the organisation to accelerate digital innovation and reinforce its operational foundations.

COO designate

As COO designate, Siegers will shape the structure of the new COO division and oversee the transition towards the renewed organisational setup. This approach ensures a careful start of the revised structure and a smooth handover of responsibilities.

“BNG plays a unique social role, and I am honoured to contribute to it. With my background in banking, operations and digitalisation, I look forward to working with colleagues to advance the strategic digitalisation agenda and help make the organisation future proof.”
Norbert Siegers
“We are delighted that Norbert is joining us as our new COO. His extensive process experience and strong focus on digitalisation fit perfectly with the direction we are pursuing as an organisation. We also value his collaborative and results oriented leadership style. His appointment marks an important step in our organisational development, in which a separate CIO role will be established alongside the new COO role. Amir Arooni will continue on an interim basis and will concentrate fully on the IT aspects of his portfolio. We look forward to the collaboration and to BNG’s continued development.”
