Nominations for the BNG Literature Award 2024 announced

The jury has nominated three authors for the BNG Literature Award 2024. The prize will be awarded on 13th February 2025 at De Duif in Amsterdam.

This year's nominees are:

  • Leonieke Baerwaldt – Dagen als vreemde symptomen (Days Like Strange Symptoms, Querido)
  • Roelof ten Napel – Over het zwijgen (On Remaining Silent, Hollands Diep)
  • Joost Oomen – Het paradijs van slapen (The Paradise Of Sleep, Querido)

The BNG Literature Award 2024 is one of the prizes awarded annually by the BNG Culture Fund to young talent. It is a lifetime achievement award intended for Dutch-language authors aged 40 or younger who have two or more works of literary prose to their name and who have not yet made their breakthrough. They must also not have won any major literary prizes. The prize consists of a sculpture by artist Theo van Eldik and a sum of 15,000 euros. This is the 20th time that this prize has been awarded.

Jury

The jury consists of four members:

  • Jury chair Pieter Jeroense - board member of BNG Cultuurfonds
  • Esther op de Beek - university lecturer in Modern Dutch Literature at Leiden University  
  • Dieuwertje Mertens - critic and journalist
  • Sebastiaan Kort - critic 

Readers' Prize

The readers' jury, consisting of people who work at BNG, will also select a winner from the three nominees. This winner will be allowed to stay at the Roland Holsthuis in Bergen for a month of their choice. This historic building, the former home of the poet Roland Holsthuis, can be used by the winner as a place to live and work.
