In September, Stichting Maatschappelijk Vastgoed (SMV) started the construction of the Olst Children's Centre in the municipality of Olst-Wijhe. This was celebrated on 25th November with a symbolic laying of the first stone. The construction of the children's centre is already the fifth project of Stichting Maatschappelijk Vastgoed financed by BNG.
The child centre replaces the existing primary schools of educational institutions Mijnplein and De Mare, and also houses KOOS childcare, a municipal gym, and a health clinic. In addition, the centre also fulfils various social functions. The building will be energy neutral thanks to its own geothermal energy system, and a roof with solar panels.
The municipality of Olst-Wijhe has chosen SMV for the new construction of the Olst childcare centre. They are responsible for the development, realisation, management, and operation (rental) of the building. To this end, they have developed the concept of ‘Renting as an Owner’. Key principles of this concept are a pleasant and healthy indoor climate, energy neutrality, low maintenance costs, and a long operating life. This allows low initial rents to be charged, resulting in lower costs than with traditional (municipal) ownership of housing.

BNG has provided the necessary credit facility, guaranteed by the municipality of Olst-Wijhe. We believe it is important to contribute to social transition through our financing activities. This credit facility will be used to construct a completely energy-neutral, gas-free and emission-free building. In this way, we are helping the municipality of Olst-Wijhe to provide high-quality, accessible and affordable education.
