We use standardised formats for efficient data exchange. These formats ensure secure and reliable transactions within Europe. For XML ISO 20022 formats, such as Euro transfers and direct debits, we follow the guidelines of the Dutch Payments Association without any modifications of our own. For the MT940 and MT940S formats, we offer our own implementation guide so that detailed bank statements can be used accurately in financial systems.
We support the latest two pain versions as described by the Dutch Payments Association. At present, this is only pain.008.001.02. We may deviate from this policy if essential fields are missing in the penultimate version. In that case, we may support more than just the latest two versions.
We offer various formats for electronic bank statements, each with their own unique characteristics and applications. We work with the MT940(S) and camt.053 formats.
MT940(S) format. The MT940(S) is our digital version of a regular bank statement, based on the standardised SWIFT format. Unlike the camt.053 format, MT940(S) offers fewer fields, which means that a lot of information ends up in field 86. This field is filled in differently by each bank, which can lead to variation.
MT940: We use this format to efficiently check bank details, with all the necessary information from the standard bank statement. Field 61, for the amount and transaction code, and field 86, for the contra account and payment reference, are particularly important. Please note: the MT940 format will be discontinued in February. From then on, only use the MT940S format.
MT940S: The MT940S format is a further development of MT940. In this format, standard code words have been added to field 86. This allows a financial system to recognise information more easily. MT940S works exclusively with IBAN, unlike MT940, which uses abbreviated account numbers.
Camt.053 Electronic account statement in XML. The camt.053 statement in ISO 20022 XML format is even more standardised than MT940S. It fits seamlessly with our euro transfers and direct debits, ideal for automated checking of bank details. We support the latest version as described by the Dutch Payments Association.
