IBAN Name Check

The IBAN Name Check was set up to reduce the risk of incorrect and fraudulent payments. The service immediately compares the registered data and issues a notification if the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) differs from the data held by receiving banks in the United Kingdom.

How does the IBAN Name Check work?

The IBAN Name Check compares IBANs and names entered in real time with the data held by the beneficiary's bank. If the name is exactly the same, you will not receive a notification. If the name differs slightly, the name on file will be displayed. If the name differs too much, the payer will receive a notification that it does not match. The IBAN Name Check is available for single payments and batch payments (from October 1st at the latest).

Privacy

Various measures have been taken in the IBAN Name Check to protect the privacy of private account holders in particular. For example, the name is only reported if it can be established with reasonable certainty that the name matches. The IBAN Name Check is GDPR compliant.

Not performed by BNG: it has been decided not to perform an IBAN Name Check via BNG, or the delivery has taken place via a direct channel (e.g. SFTP, PSD2 API). If you still want to perform the check, go to the batch detail page for the relevant batch.

You can decide whether you wish to proceed with the payment following the notification or cancel it.

You decide whether to proceed with or cancel the payment after receiving a notification. BNG advises you to check the details if you receive an error message. It may be a mistake or it could be fraud. If you receive a notification, check that the IBAN is correct. You remain responsible for payments processed by the bank.

Yes, you can remove an item from a batch. Please note that this item will not be included in the batch and must be submitted and executed in another way. The item will remain visible via the “Consult” button. It is also important to check that the details for this item are correct. For example, a name may be incorrect (e.g. A. Janssen or A Jansen). You may need to make adjustments in your accounting package.

You will see a notification. The batch payment can still be executed without performing the IBAN Name Check.

I have performed the IBAN Name Check via BNG Payment Transactions, but the processing time is so long. Can I speed this up?

The average processing time for the IBAN Name Check can be up to a few minutes. For large batches, this may take longer. This depends on several factors. BNG cannot speed up this processing time and has no influence on it.

No, it does not. The IBAN Name Check is carried out even if you are logged out.

At present, BNG processes outgoing fast payments during office hours and you can view incoming fast payments 24/7. If this changes, you will be informed in time. BNG also offers the IBAN Name Check for single payments. This will not change.
