SEPA standard payment and direct debit files

BNG supports the formats listed below.
Supported payment files
Supported debt collection files
Pain.001.001.03
pain.008.001.02
Pain.001.001.09 (newest version)
Pain.008.001.08 (newest version)

The main difference between the two files is that in the latest formats, the address details of the debtor and the creditor must be entered in a structured manner. From November 2025 onwards, address details can only be submitted in a structured format using the new Pain.001.version.09. If, for example, you want your payments and direct debits to be processed outside the EEA (particularly Switzerland and England), you will need to switch.

When should I switch to using the newer version?

If you do not currently include address details in your payment files, there is little need to switch in the short term. Do you include address details in your files? Then you will need to switch.

We recommend including the migration to the new standard in your IT roadmap. Ultimately, the older version will be discontinued when a newer SEPA standard version is implemented.

What does the change entail?

Address fields are currently listed in free format in two address lines. Structured delivery means that you must divide the address details in the file into the fields name (Nm) and at least place of residence (TwnNm) and country (Ctry). There are also other address fields available, such as street name (StrtNm), house number (BldgNm) and postcode (PstCd), but these are not mandatory.

How can you prepare?

We recommend planning software adjustments with your supplier. Discuss how address details can be recorded in a structured manner and how they can be supplied in the new format.
